All owner vacancies have been filled at this time and there are no openings in the league. We currently have 20 owners and a short waiting list to join the Schwartz League.
With a little shakeup last week we still have two openings. The two openings are Erie Sea Wolves and Midland Rockhounds. Both teams still own all of their draft picks as none have been traded to other teams.
The Riverton Raptors have announced the release of closer Eric Gagne on Saturday, January 23, 2010. Gagne pitched just 11 and 2/3 innings for the Raptors in 2009 and had a 0.77 ERA with 8 strikeouts 9 walks and 8 hits over 11 games.
The draft will consist of a Lottery for the bottom 8 teams. This will determine the pick 1-8 for those teams. The two worst teams will have 2 opportunities to get the #1 pick while everyone else will receive one. The lottery will be held for the first overall pick only.
In a tight game it was the Hillsboro Raiders 4, the Las Vegas Godfathers 2 at Jacobs Field. David Bush(8-7) pitched well for Hillsboro in their victory. He went 6 innings surrendering 4 hits and 2 walks. Hillsboro had 10 hits overall, while Las Vegas had 5. Matt Capps earned the save, his 22nd. Andy Sonnanstine(11-14) was charged with the loss. He gave up 3 runs and 9 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings.

At US Cellular Field the sizzling Las Vegas Godfathers easily handled the Watersedge Wallbangers in 10 innings by the score of 8 to 4. The score was tied at 4 after nine. Las Vegas won the game in the 10th inning. The critical plate appearance was by Luis Rodriguez who helped quiet the crowd when he doubled scoring two baserunners. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5 times. The victory was credited to Jason Motte(2-0) who went 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing no runs. Joe Blanton(11-10) was given the loss. He was touched for 14 hits and 6 walks in 9 innings. With the win, Las Vegas continued their winning ways; their streak now stands at 9 games and counting. Bill Severn was very irritated after the contest. 'Just our luck to run into a team that's playing like a juggernaut right now. I have to congratulate Dan Nixon on his team's recent performance. A very impressive run.'
Brandon Webb delivered 7 and two third solid innings as the sizzling Riverton Raptors defeated the Las Vegas Godfathers 1 to 0 at Ameriquest Field. Webb(13-5) put on a good performance. He didn't give up much, just 4 hits and no walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. Las Vegas had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Webb was helped out by Takashi Saito who recorded his 25th save. Matt Garza(4-7) suffered the loss. He gave up 5 hits and 7 walks in 8 innings. For Riverton, the victory kept their winning streak on the march.
Left fielder Rick Ankiel smacked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Metrodome as the red-hot Riverton Raptors belted the ice-cold Toledo Mud Hens by the count of 15 to 4. Ankiel was really in 'the zone'. He lifted one out of the park for a two run home run in the 1st inning, lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 18th of the season) in the 6th inning and laced a single in the 7th inning. Riverton provided plenty of action in the 4th inning with 4 runs, the 6th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 3 hits and the 7th inning when they had 4 runs on 5 hits. Riverton out-hit Toledo for the game, 17 hits to 9. Ryan Dempster(12-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 2 runs. Brian Burres(0-1) was the loser. He had trouble throwing strikes and issued 14 walks in 9 innings. For Riverton, the victory kept their winning streak on the march.
Nick Blackburn took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Riverton Raptors outscored the Homestead Grays 3 to 1. Blackburn(7-5) had a strong outing. He didn't allow much, just 3 hits and no walks in 7 innings. The right-handed Blackburn lost his chance for a no-hitter when Kelly Johnson singled with one out in the 6th inning. For the game Riverton out-hit Homestead 7 to 3. Takashi Saito was credited with his 17th save. Ervin Santana(4-6) was charged with the loss. This win by Riverton continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they are a division leading 48-27. With the loss, the Homestead ballclub's record is 36-36.
